Students entering Canada's Trent University this autumn, are being encouraged to register for a five week online summer preparation course due to run from 17 July to 18 August 2006.

The university's Academic Skills Centre is encouraging participation in the University Prep 101 non-credit course to help students learn the skills required to succeed at the post-secondary level of education. The university said the move to university education can be difficult and claimed the course will provide the opportunity for students to gain first-hand knowledge of university expectations.

The course uses readings from a range of disciplines, provides an introduction to the range of assignments typical of a first year university programme and requires an average ten to 15 hours of work each week. A personal university tutor will be available, helping students to improve and develop their writing, reading, critical thinking and time management skills.

The course which costs CAD425 is open to all recent high school graduates, college transfer students and mature students with Internet access, even if they are planning to attend another university. More information is available at www.trentu.ca/academicskills/uprep.
