Fed: Automobile Association wants action on road safety

The Australian Automobile Association has issued its election policy wishlist and reminded
political parties that five people die on the roads every day.

Association executive director LAUCHLAN MCINTOSH has called on the parties to double
the spending on road black spot programs -- and to adopt a national target of a 40 per
cent reduction in road fatalities by 2010.

He also wants road safety to be made the responsibility of a federal minister.
